The County of Lennox & Addington Libraries hosts many different kinds of programs and events. We have described some of our more popular annual events/programs below. Consult our Programming and Events Calendar for a complete listing of these and all other upcoming events.
One Book, One L&A
One Book, One Community supports reading, celebrates Canadian writers, and builds a sense of community through the shared experience of reading. OBOC encourages people in the County of Lennox & Addington to read the same book, discuss it, attend an event, and meet the author. The book and author are announced annually in April and the author visits for a special gala in late October, during Canadian Library Month.
L&A’s Great Big Family Read
In addition to our “One Book, One L&A” program for adult readers, we run a family reading program called “L&A’s Great Big Family Read.” The idea is the same: we encourage all of you to start reading the same book. The difference here is that the book in question is meant for family reading time. This program wraps with special author events.
The Ontario Library Association’s Evergreen™ Award gives adult library patrons the opportunity to champion great works of Canadian fiction or non-fiction. The Evergreen reading program is accessible in any participating public library in Ontario. Read one or more of any of the 10 titles on each year’s list to be eligible to vote for your favourite during Canadian Library Month in October.
TD Summer Reading Club
Join the TD Summer Reading Club at the County of Lennox & Addington Libraries during July and August. All you have to do is be a kid up to 12 years old, sign-up at your local library branch and read great books. Kids who sign-up can track the books they read all summer. Get involved in fun programs, special events, contests and even win prizes! Registration typically begins in late-June.
Food 4 Fines
Food 4 Fines is a special food drive held only during the month of December. During Food for Fines month, use non-perishable food items to ‘pay off’ your overdue fines. Each non-perishable food item is an overdue item. Food can only be used to pay overdue fines and not Lost/damaged items, printing/photocopying or other fees. We accept any non-perishable (dry or canned) food items.
March Break @ Your Library
Every year we invite great children’s entertainers to perform at our branches during March Break. Shows are for children of all ages and are family-friendly. Past shows have featured Little Rays Reptile Zoo and The Puppet Tamer. Many branches host other additional special events to keep kids busy during their week off from school. Refer to our events calendar for the dates and times of all March Break special events.
Local Author Showcase
Our Local Author Showcase is an annual event that provides an opportunity for the many talented writers in our region to come together and promote their work to each other and the public.
